Petoskey Stone and a blasphemy against the past

publicat in: General // Publicata pe 24.04.2023

When investigating the history of Petoskey Stone, you’ll have to go back 350 million years, when the land was all in one piece and the sea waters were warmer. Back then, life was about shells, corals, and fish, later turned into glowing crystals by their remains for thousands of years. Particularly the corals were highlighted by a display of millennial colors, resembling a bunch of "staring eyes" from the past, over the limits of experimental knowledge.

Beyond the legends of the French fur trader who married a beautiful Indian woman and became a respected tribal chief, lies the pragmatism of quartz crystals remains of the Hexagonaria percarinata coral that once bathed in the warm waters of Michigan.

Apart from the sunshine rays caressing the cheeks of little Petosgay, the white chief's son, in a blessing of hope at his birth, lies the cool advertisement for "Petoskey Stone," a perfect souvenir from the beaches of Michigan Lake.

Charmed by the legends, the traveler takes a strong grip on reality, with the stones acting as reminders of a blurred past, too little known and perceived, yet accepted.

Sublimated in today’s waves, the symbols of past seek their way into our minds, without a clear perception and not even understanding the magic of time that brought them over.

Among them, you have the "Petoskey Stone", the stone eye that allows the past to sniff us out! Still.
